Basic Knowledge
Quartz
is one of the world's most common crustal minerals and goes
by a bewildering array of different names. The most important
distinction between types of quartz is that of macrocrystalline
(individual crystals visible to the unaided eye) and the microcrystalline
or cryptocrystalline varieties (aggregates of crystals visible
only under high magnification). Chalcedony is a generic term
for cryptocrystalline quartz. The cryptocrystalline varieties
are either translucent or mostly opaque, while the transparent
varieties tend to be macrocrystalline.
Although
many of the varietal names historically arose from the color
of the mineral, current scientific naming schemes refer primarily
to the microstructure of the mineral. Color is a secondary identifier
for the cryptocrystalline minerals, although it is a primary
identifier for the macrocrystalline varieties. This does not
always hold true.
Not
all varieties of quartz are naturally occurring. Prasiolite,
an olive colored material, is produced by heat treatment. Although
citrine occurs naturally, the majority is the result of heat-treated
amethyst. Carnelian is widely heat-treated to deepen its color.
Blue Quartz is typically a type of Blue Aventurine Quartz.

Most of the time Blue quartz is only thought of as
jewelry, though many people believe it is also used for
some types of divination magic by druids.

20-Uncommon |
The dwarves who learn to work with precious stones
begin their training with blue and other quartz, often
learning the skills of cutting, polishing as well as altering
the color and brilliance of the stones.
|
30-Obscure |
Blue Quartz is often used in Illusionary magics. The
stones are prized by illusionists for adding to their
creations the flaws and inner light needed for belief.
Illusionary spells cast from wands made of blue quartz
are often much more difficult to disbelieve. However creating
wands of blue quartz is much more difficult.

40-Very Obscure |
Master Construct Creator Analis Brather used blue quartz
in his creations to give them "minds". By adding
these minds to the construct, the creation was easier to
work with and to give instructions to. |

Rare Uses and Items

Rose Hearts of Eldura Tre
When the Last Great Suffering, the Titan Chern killed the Elf
God Jandoveos, and laid his curse on the race of high elves
across the land, the elf people's minds began to twist and fracture.
Many went insane. Many of the great sorcerers were dead, and
much of the people's history was in danger of falling to ruin
as well.
Several great wizards and bards of the Eldura Tre attempted
to save the ways and knowledge of the people, a history of thirty
thousand years. To do this they created one hundred constructs
endowed with the songs, dances, arts, poems, histories and knowledge
of the Eldura Tre. These constructs were formed in the shape
of unimaginably beautiful Eldura Tre women, who moved with impossible
grace.
The diseased minds of the Eldura Tre however did not see these
creations as a means of salvation, or a hope to rebuild when
and if the curse of Chern was lifted. They saw them as abominations,
horrible reminders of the people they once were and a mocking
of what they had become. Many of the Eldura Tre constructs were
destroyed by enraged elves.
The hearts of these constructs were Blue Quartz Roses. These
Hearts of the Eldura Tre hold with in them many of the songs,
stories and poems. If a bard of significant knowledge and skill
can sing to these stones with the proper sounds, much of the
ancient knowledge and songs are reveled to her.
A bard of 7th level or higher, holding a Heart of Eldura Tre,
and making a Spell Craft Check of 25 is able to add +10 to her
Bardic Knowledge check, +20 if the check has to do with something
of Elf Lore or Magic.
Once a day a bard of 5th level or higher making a Perform check
of 25 (singing) or higher can replace his highest spell slot
with a spell of 3 levels higher. This only works for Bards who
sing when performing bardic spells. This can only be attempted
once per day. It requires three rounds for the knowledge to
enter the bard from the Heart of Eldura.
