The Plains of Leda are only framed by mountains on the west and extreme southwest areas. The Plains themselves cover the northeast area of the continent. Most of the geographical features of the plains can be described as rolling plateaus, with a high degree of relief. The general lay of the land slopes from the Kelder Mountains in the west to the shore edge of the north Blood Sea.

[edit] Weather on the Plains

The patterns of weather on the plains is difficult to predict and since the Divine War do not hold a regular pattern. Winters are generally cold, but will little rainfall. Most winter precipitation is in the form of snow or a dry, harsh sleet. Spring and Autumn months can have heavy precipitation, or be without it at all. Summers are normally as hot as any of the great deserts, though heat spells can occur year-around, while cold snaps can occur during the blazing summer months, bringing heavy clouds and down-pours of rain which may last for weeks.

Many researchers from the Library have suggested that the chaotic nature of the weather system is caused by a non-natural phenomena created by ancient people, and that the system they created to control the weather was damaged during the Divine War. While many scoff at this idea, several Vigil rangers who have traveled and explored the plains suggest that the weather patterns are certainly not natural, though what they might attribute the nature of the phenomena to, has never been recorded.

[edit] Elder Tree

Near the geographic center of the plains, there stands a large barren tree. Its size is much greater than any other tree of Ghelspad, and no other tree of its species has been reported to the Library. Last measurements of the tree put it at 425 feet high, and 30 feet diameter at breast hight. The bark of this tree has been measured at two feet thick.

There have never been reports of this tree having leaves, seeds or fruit, though it is certain the tree is still alive.

[edit] Spine Forest

The Spine Forest of the Plains of Lede is one of the few large forests on the Ghelspad which has not been infested or overrun with Titan Spawn or suffered from Blood Taint. For the most part, these trees and the forest are as they were before the Divine War. Because of this the druids who care and live in this forest are perhaps more over protective than in other forests on the continent, and more prone to attacking those who enter the forest without their permission. How one gains their permission to enter is a matter of some mystery. It has even been reported by the Vigil of Vesh that rangers of their ranks have been turned forcibly away from the woods of the Spine.
