There is a new section on Scarn.com being developed for the Scion RPG series published by White Wolf. The articles in this section will give a broader insight and other suggestions about what personality traits a Scion might have, as well as a deeper look into the Scion’s godhood, but looking at the parent.
This series has started with the page “so your Mother is the Morrigan?”, since White Wolf is focused on the Nordic Pantheon right now, choosing to start with the Celtic Gods, seemed like a good idea.
The articles will be broad enough, and bring in enough historic and mythic information, that they should not get in the way of anything that White Wolf chooses to bring out in later books for the Scion series, however, for those of you who are players, remember that no matter what, when it comes down to it, the Storyteller is the final editor.
For Storytellers, it is our goal to give you more ideas, not to limit you in anyway. So if the stories and insights in these areas help you build better games, great, please let us know how, and what could be more helpful to you as well. We are ceratinly open to suggestions.
The article series will keep to the theme “So your Mother/Father is …?” and we will be striving to come out with a new one, at least once a week, again, beginning with the Celtic gods/goddesses/powers/fey and then probably moving to India, or Egypt.

This is so cool… Are you just going to be working on the Celtic right now? or are you going to do different pantheons each wee?
I’m going to stick with the Celtic Pantheon… because it is huge. Also, in the Scion Source Books, White Wolf created sources for dead gods like Baldur, which I kind of feel was a mistake — much of the tone of the Norse mythology is based on the fact that Baldur is not only dead, but was killed in the manner that he was, and by who he was killed by, and how. I mean, seriously, how do you keep putting out there, like they do, that Loki is the great betrayer, when Baldur is walking around free? Thor looses his dark side, all kinds of things break down in the mythology of the Norse pantheon if Baldur is alive and current starring in the latest action film.
So, anyway, this is on my mind right now as I’m working on the final version of the Morrigan, and thinking that most of the Ulster Cycle is dead — and what it means if they are still alive — and seeing many of the same problems.
I understand that it is a game, and a fantasy, and all of that, but it is a game based on the myths, and the myths have appeal and purpose because of some very basic and required events. I seriously would have some trouble Storytelling if one of my players had a Baldur Scion.
So, I’m still not sure I’m going to be publishing any of the dead Celtic gods, or goddesses.
I agree, with both comments… this is very cool.. and WTF? on the Baldur thing? That’s the first thing I read when I got to the Aseir section and the first thing I thought… wow… so should we also just toss out the whole Asgarrd thing as well? sheesh…
I don’t think you should do the dead Celtic Gods… seriously… don’t do the same mistake. I mean, how do you have a Washer at the Ford for Cúchulainn, if Cúchulainn is going to be alive? That isn’t right.. and it takes away from the Morrigan, Medb… well.. the whole Tain Bo Cuailnge just goes away really.. or it was never fought — which would what? — make Cúchulainn a coward? … that can’t be good.. and certainly not worth it just to let some whinning 12 year-old play a Cúchulainn Scion (because anyone older than 12 wouldn’t think of doing it).
Anyway.. if it is of any help, NO.. Don’t Do IT ! Make the BAD MAN Stop!
