Scarn.com is a "player's site", meaning, I'm a player,
a dungeon master for my group, and this site is created for the
support of our on-going game. Most of the content on Scarn.com
is created as stories and fiction based on our weekly games, the
PC's and the NPC's, both for our own entertainment, and to keep
the precious hours we have together, focused on the game, and
not spending a huge part of our day on background information
we can get from here. As a collection it also helps us keep track
of our game history.
As a player site, the book reviews you find on here are books
we own, and use. The game stories, PC pages and NPC pages are
the same, characters in our world who are currently active and
part of our world story.
We actually have two groups on this site, the Santee Dragons
Group and the Acron group. You will see both in our forum area.
Who is Seeker?
Seeker is my voice for the website. I want Scarn.com to be a
"story" in itself, and needed a voice to tell the tale.
He first came to my head when I was working on a story about Fesoj,
our groups main Druid, and his trail in the desert. He seemed
like a cool guy, a "teller of tales and keeper of wisdom"
When I wrote the Fesoj story, he was human, and very old, but
then I came across the Ursinal Guardinal by Matthew
Mitchell (couldn't find a website he owns, but he also did
some work on other books for WoTC such as Vile Darkness). The
Ursinal Guardian in Book of Exaultd deeds was perfect for my Seeker
NPC and this website's voice, and so, you will find him all over
the place.
Why Scarn.com?
That is pretty simple, it was available, and it was much shorter
to type in than say www.santeescarredlands.com
Why the Scarred Lands?
Ever try making your own world? I hope so, because it is a great
way to really get into all the aspects of role-playing adventure
games. I started with creating a few basic places in our starter
world, and as time pressed for a new game each week, started using
a few of the dungeons and adventures of the Wizards of the Coast
website, and buying a few from other places as well. Then I came
across the Mithril City book from Swords and Sorcery, and really
loved the details it offered for the NPC's and the workings of
the city itself.
So, all the PC's took off on the 'great migration' over to the
world of the Scarred Lands, where I have since purchased many
more Sword and Sorcery books to round out our new home. There
are many worlds to choose from, and I feel that in many ways some
are much better than the Scarred Lands, and when I find those,
they are usually created well enough to be added to our world
with only a few adjustments to the descriptions and NPC's. For
example, we also use Freeport in our world and the Ghostwalk city
of Manifest.
Have fun and if you find something useful, great. I know with
all the sites out there today pushing book covers at a new player,
it can get confusing. So, read as you wish, and if you have comments,
I would love to hear from
you.
