Geist : Sin-Eaters is a World of Darkness RPG published by White Wolf, based on the Storyteller Rule Set. - The character begins his story, dead (which if we did this with more RPG's it would save a great deal of hassle for the Storytellers).
- You've been brought into the hospital, bullet wounds in your chest, blood pumping from a severed vein, your mind reeling with the reality, that this is it, it is over ... you are slipping away.
- ... and then you slip.
- No, there was no saving throw, there was no doctor rushing in with the just-in-time solution, there was no more time left to pursue all of those trivial things on your to-do list, or tomorrows to forward that list on to -- it is over, Jesus saves, the rest of you take damage! -- you are gone.
- As you are struggling to remain in your body, having a strong will to live, or perhaps a very solid denial that you are dead, you hear a voice
-
- ... ah... the way.
- The voice is a little off, perhaps a little edgy. A fast talking salesman, but, there isn't much time left is there? You can't hold on to your body much longer. The voice offers a deal ... die, or live with its spirit inside you... a time-share agreement? Yes, something like that. If you agree, however, you live. So what's it going to be? This is the reality show baby, and you are being flushed into the river of death... yes.. or no?
-
- The Sin-Eater is born on accepting this deal. Of course, all of the details are different from Sin-Eater to Sin-Eater
-
- For a RPG that deals with a subject very few can say they really know anything about, the thought and creative ideas White Wolf came up with in putting this storyline together for the World of Darkness set, is very good.
- There is quite a bit of "introduction", maybe too much. The writers appear to have believed, things like "options" needed to be confirmed many more times than I thought was necessary -- so, if that's the only complaint... I'm glad I bought the book.
- The Sin-Eaters can be a part of your current World of Darkness game, with little trouble, and since I read through the book I've been thinking of different ways these beings can be used in a storyline, or existing group of say, vampires, or werewolves -- Which really says more for the effort than anything else -- I read it, and was instantly consumed with story-lines and ideas and scenes. What more are you asking from your RPG source books?
