Slowly
Tordek changes, but he does change. The sole survivor (from what
he can verify right now) of the Dragonbeard clan of Erindor. His
clan and many others living in the Angmar Mountains were wiped
out by a battle between two dragons inside their city. The two
never even noticed the city of dwarves once they began their battle
over the contents of the mine. At least, this is what Tordek has
been able to put together.
Later, in his travels with Edberk,
a Cleric of the dwarf god Mordain, Tordek learned of a group
of dwarf refugees which walked into the middle of a war between
Gnolls and a Paladin army; crossing a wide valley just when
the Gnolls began their attack. The Paladin's of course tried
hard to get to the dwarves before the Gnolls, but only succeeded
in crushing the refugees between them and the waves of vicious
Gnolls. From the notes of the Paladin general, the refugees
were probably what remained of Tordek's clan.
Tordek wandered for a time, he recalls, and then was taken
slave to work in some mines. Escaping from there after many
years of hard labor (even by dwarf standards) Tordek was found
by Edberk. Angry and lost, he followed
the cleric but saw the world over the edge of an axe. After
a time he found comfort in the teachings of the creator as told
by Edberk, and though he still holds
his axe in his hand, he is willing to share a pint with the
other hand if it is possible.
Tordek finds himself now in the land of Scarn. He has met gods,
dark elves, wack dragons, and strange creatures (not all of
them very good to eat). He currently lives in the city of Burok
Torn, where his house was recently finished, and he is somewhat
of a celebrity, being part of the Burok
Torn's patron god's healing.
While comfortable on the battle field, and on a first name
basis with various degrees of death, Tordek finds that life
as a celebrity and political tool is far beyond his axe's reach.
More often than not he finds himself stepping on his own beard,
and since his long time companion Edberk,
is now busy with setting up his temple and teaching the ways
of Mordain, Tordek often finds himself not knowing what to do
next. So it is almost with a sigh of relief that he greets the
wars Calastia
brings to the gates of Burok
Torn.
